Overview

Institute Social Responsibility at Rajeev Gandhi College of Management Studies has evolved to include the participation of all stakeholders including students, faculty, NGO’s, rotary clubs etc. Over the years the students and faculty at RGCMS have actively participated in outreach program initiatives where they contribute their knowledge, skills, and technical expertise. Some of the activities covered under ISR are Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Blood Donation, Swachha Bharat Abhiyan, Flood Relief, Tree Plantation etc.

Objectives and Functions

Objectives: 

To develop, integrate and initiate collaborations with stakeholders for strategic inventions in the areas of health, education, community development, and environment. It enables the college to engage in social welfare activities and to take part in the development of the society.

Functions of ISR Committee:

  • Formulating and recommending the activities to be undertaken by the college. 
  • Recommending amount of expenditure to be incurred on ISR activities undertaken. 
  • To constitute the committee for implementation and execution of ISR initiatives/ activities. 
  • To keep a record of activities carried out during the financial year. 
  • To propose budget expenditure at the beginning of the financial year and get it approved.

A.Y.2023-2024:

1. Tree Plantation Drive on 23th July 2023

Tree Planation drive was carried out to create awareness and help students understand the value of trees & its importance in the ecosystem at RGCMS Campus Playground. To promote and raise awareness among students about the importance of trees for the environment, in collaboration with Rotary Club, Navi Mumbai. The Rotary Club provided them with saplings and planting instructions. Students were divided into groups, and each group was assigned a specific area for plantation. Later students along with teachers proceeded to plant saplings.

2. Swachch Bharata Abhiyan:

Swachch Bharata Abhiyan was conducted on 17th September 2023.To promote awareness and help students understand the value of cleanliness & maintenance of hygiene around vicinity, in collaboration with Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation at Vashi palm beach road.To promote awareness and help students understand the value of cleanliness & maintenance of hygiene around vicinity.

3. Swachch Bharata Abhiyan cleanliness drive:

Swachch Bharata Abhiyan cleanliness drive was conducted on 2Nd October,2023. To promote cleanliness awareness, in collaboration with Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Ghansoli ward conducted a cleanliness drive in the campus on the theme ‘Dream Cleanliness; Dream Victory’. The participants were provided with necessary items for cleaning like broom, buckets to aid better cleanliness drive. All participating students showcased the initiative with a banner and also chanted awareness slogans like on ‘Swapn Swachchteche; Swapn Vijay padachey’.

4. Breast Awareness Campaign:

Breast Awareness Campaign on 5thNovember,2023. The activity helped to educate women about the importance of diagnosing cancer at early stages when treatment is easier and outcome is better. The Breast Awareness Campaign, organized by Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Navi Mumbai, was held at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital with the aim of raising awareness and promoting early detection of breast cancer. To educate participants about self-breast examination techniques and healthy lifestyle and regular health check-ups.

5. Voter’s Id registration camp(Voter’s Id registration):

Voter’s Id registration camp(Voter’s Id registration) was conducted to create awareness about voter ID and registration session on 1st November 2023 at IG building, RGCMS Ghansoli campus. To encourage students to exercise their right to vote and become active participants in shaping our society; the committee collaborated with 150, Airoli – Vidhansabha Mattdarr Sangh. Mrs. Vibha with other representatives educated students about the importance of having a Voter’s ID and requested to participate in the democratic process. Students were assisted in registering for their new Voter’s IDs application.

6. Managing stress through Meditation:

Managing stress through Meditation was conducted on5th March 2024. The activity objective was to promote meditation as a way of lifestyle among students. The activity was in collaboration with Devjyot Pyramid Meditation Center, Mulund under the aegis of University Grant Commission’s initiative ‘Har Ghar Dhyan campaign’ .60 students participated in an informative seminar about right lifestyle & meditation & a later workshop was conducted for basic meditation practices for better understanding.

7. Unnat Bharat Abhiyan

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan was conducted on 5th March 2024 to promote awareness on higher education, health & hygiene, good – bad touch & distribution of stationary among students studying in outskirts. UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN initiative started by AICTE, the institute along with 16 students & 2 faculty members visited Zilha Parishad Marathi School, Vadgharin collaboration with Aarine Foundation. All the students along with school students conversed with the school kids, cleaned the school & its vicinity, sang songs/poems & celebrated Children’s Day with them by distributing stationaries like notebooks & pencils pack sponsored from institute as a small contribution towards social responsibility towards society.

8. Blood Donation Camp:

Blood Donation Camp was conducted on 18th March 2024 was conducted to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation camp at RGCMS Campus. The activity was to promote blood donation awareness among students as an ISR initiative, The ISR committee jointly organized this campaign along with rotary club and Kharghar blood bank. The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation, increase participation among students and faculty, and contribute to the local blood supply. Out of 70 students; 38 participants gave blood.

9. Thalassemia Awareness Camp:

Thalassemia Awareness Camp was conducted for Thalassemia awareness among students as an ISR initiative, committee jointly organized this campaign along with Arpan Thalassemia Society, Mumbai. The campaign was conducted in RGCMS campus on 19th March 2024. The workshop aimed at spreading awareness about thalassemia and the need to be alert and educated about this inherited blood disorder; especially among the youth. Out of 60 students; 39 gave blood samples & got themselves tested. Result was negative for all student participants

10. Webinar on E-Waste Management:

This activity is to raise awareness about the environmental and health impacts of electronic waste and to provide information on sustainable solutions for managing and reducing e-waste. The activity was carried out on 23-03-2024 on G-meet 120 people joined the webinar. Resource person spoke about the challenges, various types of electronic waste recycling, Government rules for E-waste , extended Producer Responsibility, reduce E-waste , levels of license of E-waste, How to re-recycle E-waste, etc. It aimed to educate individuals and organizations on the importance of proper e-waste disposal and recycling, as well as promote the adoption of eco-friendly practices in the electronics industry. Additionally, we seek to emphasize the importance of circular economy principles in addressing the growing problem of electronic waste and to encourage collaboration among stakeholders to develop innovative solutions for a more sustainable future.

A.Y. 2022-2023:

1. Seminar on ‘Skin & Organ donation Awareness

This activity was conducted to promote Skin & Organ donation awareness among the students across Navi Mumbai zone. To promote Skin & Organ donation. CSR committee collaborated with Thane Belapur Industrial Association & Burns Hospital in this initiative.Dr. Sunil Keswani, National Burns Center, Airoli-Navi Mumbai was the key speaker for the session. He spoke on the meaning & importance of skin & organ donation & how this can save lives.20 students were allowed to visit TBIA to attend the session & contributed to the social awareness cause representing the institute.

2. Workshop on ‘Thalassemia Awareness Program (Seminar +Free check-up)’

This activity was to promote Thalassemia awareness among students as a CSR initiative, The CSR committee jointly organized this campaign along with Arpan Thalassemia Society, Mumbai. The campaign was conducted in RGCMS campus on 2nd August 2022. The workshop aimed at spreading awareness about thalassemia and the need to be alert and educated about this inherited blood disorder; especially among the youth.The resource person delivered a seminar on what is thalassemia, how it happens & what to do if one is tested as a thalassemia minor. Thalassemia major is a genetic disorder, passed from parents to children. Thalassemia carriers are common in the general population. All these thalassemia major births can be completely prevented through awareness and timely screening. The samples were taken by the Arpan Lab which sent the report back to the CSR committee of the Institute. Out of 60 students; 39 gave blood samples & got themselves tested. Result was negative for all student participants

3. ‘Walk for Soil’ Awareness event

Walk for soil activity was conducted to promote soil awareness among the general masses across Navi Mumbai zone. CSR committee collaborated with Rotary Club, Navi Mumbai ness in this initiative. The walkathon was held in the morning from 7:30 am -9:00 am. 20 students participated in the event & walked from jewels of Navi Mumbai till seawoods nexus mall. On reaching the mall the participants chanted slogans & contributed to the social awareness cause representing the institute.

4. RGCMS – Unnat Bharat Abhiyan 22-23

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan activity was to promote higher education among students studying in the outskirts, under the UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN initiative started by AICTE, the institute along with 11 students & 2 faculty members visited G.P. Prathamik Shala, Asangaon.. All the students along with school students’ conversed with the school kids, cleaned the school & its vicinity, sang songs/poems & celebrated Children’s Day with them by distributing stationaries like notebooks & pencils pack sponsored from institute as a small contribution towards social responsibility towards society.It was observed that the school kids were well awareness of health & hygiene. It was observed that this activity triggered our students’ social awareness & responsibility concept. As they were more than pleased by participating in such activity.

5. RGCMS – Swachch Bharat Abhiyan 22-23 (Activity -1)

Swacch Bharat Abhiyan – Swachchta MoUD App awareness was to promote cleanliness awareness & encourage Swachchta MoUD App awareness, under the SWACCH BHARAT ABHIYAN initiative. Government got an app developed & NMMC insisted all institutes create awareness & utility of the same among young students. Wherever one sees the issue in the vicinity; one should click & upload a picture; input issue description & submit the details in the application. The query will be worked on within 48 hours & that one can check the status of the raised issue too.Along with 2 teachers, NMMC representatives were sent willingly to classes to inform students to start using the application.

6. RGCMS – Swachch Bharat Abhiyan 22-23 (Activity -2)

Swacch Bharat Abhiyan – Cleanliness drive was conducted on 4th February 2023 to promote cleanliness awareness, under the SWACCH BHARAT ABHIYAN initiative started by AICTE, in collaboration with Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Ghansoli ward conducted a cleanliness drive in the nearby vicinity.The institute provided them with gloves & masks for maintaining self-hygiene norms while NMMC representatives distributed broom, buckets to aid better cleanliness drive.
Later followed by clapping for NMMC Sweepers, Garbage handlers as they also were a part of this activity with the objective of ‘swachchta karmi ka sammaan’
All participating students showcased the initiative with a banner and also chanted awareness slogans like on ‘Geela kachra, sukha kachra alag rakho’ & talked with general people on maintaining community hygiene.

7. Meditation way to distress

Meditation way to distress session was conducted on 22nd February 2023. The activity objective was to promote meditation as a way of lifestyle among students. CSR initiative undertaken by CSR committee in collaboration with Devjyot Pyramid Meditation Center, Mulund under the aegis of University Grant Commission’s initiative ‘Har Ghar Dhyan campaign’

8. Road safety awareness program 22-23

Road safety awareness program was to promote road safety on 18th April 2023 among students a CSR initiative undertaken by CSR committee in collaboration with United Way, Mumbai. 70 students participated in an informative seminar about road safety & later a live safety workshop was conducted for students for better understanding.This training session on road safety awareness was conducted as the necessity was felt to conduct training like this. Resource persons well explained the basics & statistics about the traffic & accidents occurring on the road that is a very serious issue in the country as well as across the world.
He also gave information about “motor vehicle act and traffic rules” and also said that the best way to keep others and yourself safe is to follow proper traffic rules.
He showed a chart containing road safety signs and taught the students the meaning of the signs. He also mentioned that everyone should memorize the signs, as when you apply for a driving license, identifications of these come in the questions.Students participated & got certificates too; also asked many questions to clear their doubts & pledged to create further awareness.
